Ingredients

Cheese

  • 8 Original Babybel cheese rounds

Breading

  • 1 cup Italian breadcrumbs (106 gm)
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 350°F and allow it to preheat fully to ensure even cooking.
  2. Prepare the Egg Wash: Whisk the 2 eggs in a shallow bowl until they are well beaten and smooth for an even coating.
  3. Prepare Breadcrumbs: Pour Italian breadcrumbs into a separate shallow bowl. If using plain breadcrumbs, mix in your preferred seasonings at this stage.
  4. Remove Red Coating: Peel off the red wax coating from each Babybel cheese round carefully to expose the cheese.
  5. Coat Cheese in Egg: Dip each peeled cheese round into the beaten eggs, making sure it is coated on all sides.
  6. Coat Cheese in Breadcrumbs: Immediately dip each egg-coated cheese round into the Italian breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure an even, thorough coating.
  7. Prepare Air Fryer Basket: Line the air fryer basket with aluminum foil to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  8. Arrange Cheese Bites: Place the breaded cheese rounds spaced evenly on the foil-lined basket to allow air circulation.
  9. Air Fry First Side: Cook the cheese bites in the air fryer for 3 minutes at 350°F to start browning the coating.
  10. Flip and Finish Cooking: Carefully flip each bite and air fry for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown on the outside and the cheese inside is melted and gooey.
  11. Serve: Remove immediately and enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce for a hot, cheesy appetizer experience.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding garlic powder, paprika, or dried herbs to the breadcrumbs.
  • Be careful when flipping the cheese bites as they are hot and the melted cheese can be soft.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the gooey melted cheese at its best.
  • Using aluminum foil helps prevent sticking but make sure it doesn’t block air circulation in the air fryer basket.
  • If you prefer a crunchier coating, double dip the cheese rounds in egg and breadcrumbs before air frying.
