A rich and flavorful Cajun Garlic Butter Sauce that combines the bold spices of Cajun seasoning with the creamy richness of butter and fresh garlic. Perfect for enhancing seafood, chicken, or vegetables with a zesty, smoky kick.

Ingredients

Butter Sauce

  • 1 stick butter (divided, about 8 tablespoons)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced or grated)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning (homemade or storebought)

Homemade Cajun Seasoning

  • 3 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil

Instructions

  1. Prepare Garlic: Mince or grate 4 cloves of fresh garlic to get a fine texture for maximum flavor release during cooking.
  2. Melt Butter: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter gently to avoid browning. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring frequently to infuse the butter with garlic flavor without burning.
  3. Add Remaining Ingredients: Add the remaining butter (7 tablespoons) to the saucepan along with 1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning. Whisk everything together thoroughly to combine all flavors.
  4. Simmer Sauce: Continue cooking the mixture over low heat, whisking occasionally, for 5 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly without boiling.
  5. Mix Cajun Seasoning: To make your own Cajun seasoning, combine 3 tablespoons smoked paprika, 1 tablespoon onion powder, 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, 1 teaspoon ground white pepper, 1 teaspoon ground mustard, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried thyme, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, and ½ teaspoon dried basil in a bowl. Store any extra seasoning in an airtight container for future use.

Notes

  • The sauce can be kept warm on low heat but avoid overheating to prevent burning the garlic.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best taste; pre-minced garlic can be used in a pinch but flavor might be less vibrant.
  • This sauce pairs wonderfully with grilled shrimp, chicken breasts, roasted vegetables, or poured over baked potatoes.
  • Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper for desired spiciness.
  • Leftover Cajun seasoning can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
