Ingredients

Chai Tea Concentrate

  • 2 black tea bags
  • 1 cinnamon stick (or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
  • 1 star anise
  • 10 cardamom seeds (or 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom)
  • 10 cloves (or 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves)
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger (or 1 pinch ground ginger)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (liquid)
  • 100 ml water

Chai Latte

  • 400 ml milk (cow's milk or plant-based milk)
  • Liquid cream (quantity not specified, approximately 30 ml suggested)
  • Powdered sugar (quantity not specified, approximately 1-2 teaspoons suggested)
  • Ground cinnamon for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preparation of chai tea concentrate: In a small saucepan, combine the 2 black tea bags, cinnamon stick (or ground cinnamon), star anise, cardamom seeds (or ground cardamom), cloves (or ground cloves), fresh ginger piece (or ground ginger), ground nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
  2. Add water and simmer: Pour in 100 ml of water. Heat the mixture over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to help infuse the spices and tea flavors.
  3. Strain the concentrate: Remove from heat and pass the mixture through a fine sieve to strain out all the spices and tea bags, leaving a smooth chai concentrate.
  4. Store the concentrate: Transfer the chai concentrate to a container with a lid and refrigerate it until needed. It can be stored for several days.
  5. Heat the milk: When ready to serve, warm 400 ml of milk either in the microwave or gently in a saucepan over low heat until hot but not boiling.
  6. Combine chai concentrate and milk: Pour the hot milk into a mug, then add about 50 ml of the prepared chai concentrate into the milk, mixing gently.
  7. Prepare cream froth: In a small bowl, combine liquid cream with powdered sugar to taste and froth the mixture using a milk frother until light and airy.
  8. Finish the chai latte: Spoon the frothed cream on top of the chai latte, sprinkle lightly with ground cinnamon for garnish, and serve immediately while piping hot.

Notes

  • The chai concentrate can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days for convenience.
  • Adjust the amount of spices according to personal preference for stronger or milder chai flavors.
  • Plant-based milk alternatives such as almond, oat, or soy milk work well in this recipe.
  • Liquid cream and powdered sugar quantities can be adjusted based on desired sweetness and richness.
  • For a vegan option, use plant-based milk and substitute cream froth with coconut cream or a vegan frother alternative.
