Crispy Onion Rings baked with a crispy parmesan cheese crust, seasoned with paprika and garlic powder, making for a delicious and healthier alternative to traditional fried onion rings. Served best with ranch or your favorite dip.

Ingredients

Onion Rings

  • 1 (8-ounce) block parmesan cheese (or cheddar cheese, shredded)
  • 2 small white onions, sliced into ⅛-inch thick rounds
  • Avocado oil cooking spray
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For Serving

  • Ranch dip (or your favorite dip)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
  2. Prepare Cheese Base: Spread the grated parmesan cheese evenly on the bottom of the prepared baking dish in a thin, uniform layer. This will form the crispy base layer for the onion rings.
  3. Arrange Onion Slices: Place the sliced onion rounds on top of the cheese layer, ensuring they are touching each other but not overlapping to allow even crisping.
  4. Season and Spray: Lightly spray the top of the onion rings with avocado oil cooking spray. In a small bowl, mix the paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, then sprinkle the seasoning evenly over the onion slices.
  5. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20 minutes, or until the cheese and onions are crispy and golden brown.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5-10 minutes to let the cheese crisp up fully. Break apart the crispy onion rings and serve warm with ranch dip or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Using parmesan gives a nuttier and sharper flavor, but cheddar cheese is a good alternative if preferred.
  • Make sure onion slices are cut uniformly to ensure even baking.
  • You can experiment with different seasonings like cayenne or smoked paprika for a spicy twist.
  • Allowing the rings to cool slightly is important for maximum crispiness.
  • This recipe is a great low-oil alternative to traditional deep-fried onion rings.
