This Easy Chai Latte recipe offers a warm and comforting spiced tea experience, perfect for cozy mornings or relaxing afternoons. Combining aromatic spices like cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and cardamom with black tea and creamy milk, this comforting drink is naturally sweetened with maple syrup or honey. It’s simple to prepare on the stovetop and can be made with dairy or dairy-free milk, tailored to your preference.

Ingredients

Liquids

  • 3 cups milk (dairy or dairy-free)
  • 2 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Tea

  • 2 black tea bags

Spices

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cardamom

Instructions

  1. Heat Milk and Steep Tea: Heat the milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat, add the black tea bags fully immersed by snipping off labels, and let steep for 4 to 5 minutes to infuse the tea flavors.
  2. Remove Tea Bags: After steeping, gently remove the tea bags using a slotted spoon to avoid excess liquid dripping and preventing bitterness.
  3. Add Spices and Sweeteners: Return the saucepan to medium heat. Add the ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground cloves, ground cardamom, vanilla extract, and maple syrup or honey to the milk and tea infusion.
  4. Whisk and Heat: Whisk all ingredients together until well combined and the chai latte is heated through, allowing the spices and sweetness to meld perfectly.
  5. Serve: Pour the chai latte into mugs and optionally top with extra milk foam and a sprinkle of cinnamon for a decorative and flavorful finish.

Notes

  • You can use any dairy or non-dairy milk such as almond, oat, or soy milk to suit dietary preferences.
  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup or honey according to taste.
  • For an extra frothy latte, use a milk frother or whisk vigorously before serving.
  • Spice amounts can be adjusted based on your preference for more or less intensity.
  • Steep tea bags carefully to avoid over-steeping which can make the tea bitter.
