This Flourless Brownies recipe delivers rich, fudgy, and naturally sweetened brownies made without flour. Using almond butter, applesauce, and coconut sugar, these brownies are both gluten-free and a deliciously moist treat. Perfect for anyone looking for an easy-to-make, healthier alternative to traditional brownies, these are quick to whip up and bake in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup creamy almond butter (192g, unsalted)
  • ¼ cup applesauce (unsweetened or sweetened, room temperature)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup (room temperature)
  • ⅓ cup coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • ⅓ cup cocoa powder (26g)
  • ½ tsp baking soda

Optional

  • ½ cup chocolate chips (plus extra for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prep and Preheat: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Whisk Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the eggs, almond butter, applesauce, maple syrup, coconut sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk everything together until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the cocoa powder and baking soda until just combined, taking care not to overmix. Then gently fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  4. Pour Batter Into Pan: Transfer the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Scatter a handful of additional chocolate chips on top for extra gooeyness and texture.
  5. Bake: Bake for 20 to 25 minutes depending on your desired texture. For a fudgier brownie, bake around 22 minutes. If you prefer cakey brownies, bake for the full 25 minutes. Use a toothpick inserted near the center to check that it comes out with moist crumbs.
  6. Cool and Slice: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing into 9 pieces. Cooling helps them set and makes cutting cleaner.

Notes

  • You can substitute almond butter with other nut butters but consistency may vary.
  • For sweeter brownies, consider adding a bit more maple syrup or chocolate chips.
  • Make sure the applesauce and maple syrup are at room temperature to help ingredients blend smoothly.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to one week.
  • These brownies freeze well; thaw before serving.
  • Use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips for best flavor.
