Ideal for a quick and satisfying homemade meal, the pizza is cooked directly on a medium-high grill for a beautifully charred finish. Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 pound pizza dough

Toppings & Seasoning

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pizza seasoning (or ½ teaspoon each garlic powder, onion powder & oregano)
  • 1 cup tomato sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 16 ounces sliced mozzarella (1 package)
  • Toppings of choice (e.g., fresh basil and crushed red pepper for margherita pizza)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill and Prepare Dough: Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. If using store-bought dough, allow it to rise at room temperature for 20 minutes to become more pliable and flavorful.
  2. Portion and Shape Dough: Cut the pizza dough into 2 to 8 portions, depending on your preferred pizza size and thickness. Roll each portion into your desired size and thickness on a parchment paper sheet to ensure easy transfer.
  3. Oil and Grill Dough: Brush 4 tablespoons of olive oil generously on top of the rolled dough. Carefully lift the dough with the parchment paper beneath and flip it onto the grill, placing the oiled side down. Remove the parchment paper carefully to avoid sticking.
  4. Grill First Side: Cover and cook the dough for 2-3 minutes. Use tongs to check for grill marks and a lightly golden bottom, indicating it is ready to flip.
  5. Add Toppings and Grill Second Side: Transfer the grilled dough onto a plate and evenly spread the pizza seasoning, tomato sauce, sliced mozzarella, and your choice of toppings onto the cooked side. Lower the grill heat slightly, then slide the pizzas back onto the grill to cook the other side for 3-5 minutes until the cheese melts and the bottom crust turns golden brown.
  6. Remove and Serve: Use tongs to carefully remove the pizzas from the grill. Allow them to cool for a few minutes before slicing to serve.

Notes

  • Allowing the dough to come to room temperature and rise slightly improves texture and flavor.
  • Use parchment paper for easy transfer to the grill and avoid sticking.
  • Adjust grill temperature as needed to prevent burning while ensuring cheese melts properly.
  • Customize toppings based on preference, but consider adding fresh herbs like basil after grilling.
  • For a crispier crust, do not overload the pizza with sauce or toppings.
  • Keep an eye on the pizza to avoid flare-ups from dripping oil or cheese.
