This Mango Lassi recipe delivers a creamy, sweet, and refreshing Indian beverage made with ripe mangoes, cold yogurt, and milk, perfectly flavored with cardamom and garnished with nuts and saffron. Ideal for a quick, healthy treat that's ready in under 10 minutes, it can be blended or shaken for a smooth, thick, yet pourable consistency similar to restaurant style lassi.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1½ cup (280 grams) mangoes, chopped (sweet ripe mangoes or 1 cup canned sweetened pulp)
  • ¾ cup (175 grams) cold plain yogurt (Indian curd)
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) cold milk (or water or/and 4 ice cubes)
  • 1½ to 3 tablespoons (18 to 36 grams) sugar (adjust to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder (optional)

Garnish

  • 1 teaspoon chopped unsalted pistachios
  • 1 pinch saffron strands
  • 4 tablespoons whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare Mangoes: If using fresh mangoes, rinse and chill them for a few hours, peel and cube to keep the lassi cold after blending. Skip this step if using canned mango pulp.
  2. Add Ingredients to Blender: Combine mangoes, yogurt, milk (or water or ice cubes), cardamom powder, and sugar in a blender jar.
  3. Blend Smoothly: Blend the mixture until it becomes super smooth with a thick but pourable consistency.
  4. Adjust Flavor and Consistency: Taste the lassi and add more sugar for sweetness or milk/ice water for thinner consistency. Add extra mangoes and a splash of water for stronger mango flavor.
  5. Serve or Chill: Pour the mango lassi into serving glasses. Refrigerate for an hour if a colder drink is desired.
  6. Garnish: Sprinkle sliced pistachios and saffron strands on top, and add whipped cream for extra richness.
  7. Alternate Mason Jar Method: Add ½ cup chilled mango pulp, ⅓ cup cold Greek yogurt, ¼ cup cold milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, a pinch of cardamom powder, and 1–2 ice cubes into a mason jar. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 2 minutes or whisk until fully combined.
  8. Serve Immediately: Serve the mango lassi fresh from the mason jar, ensuring it is cold and well mixed.

Notes

  • Using canned mango pulp makes preparation faster as peeling and chopping is not needed.
  • Adjust sugar amount based on the sweetness of mangoes and personal preference.
  • Milk can be replaced with water or combined with ice cubes to make it lighter and colder.
  • Cardamom powder is optional but adds a classic aromatic flavor.
  • Refrigerate the lassi for at least an hour if serving chilled.
  • The whipped cream garnish is optional but adds creaminess and richness.
