This Maple Dijon Chicken recipe is a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavors, featuring tender, juicy chicken breasts baked in a rich maple syrup and Dijon mustard sauce. Easy to prepare and ready in just 45 minutes, it's an ideal weeknight dinner that impresses with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Maple Dijon Sauce

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 4 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for sauce)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons olive oil (for baking dish)
  • 1 tablespoon parsley flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly brush a baking dish with 1 ½ teaspoons of olive oil to prevent sticking and to add flavor.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, warm 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and cook gently, stirring regularly until the garlic is fragrant and lightly browned, about 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to burn it.
  3. Combine Sauce Ingredients: Remove the pan from heat. Stir in the maple syrup, Dijon mustard, parsley flakes, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and freshly ground pepper until fully combined. Set the sauce aside.
  4. Prepare Chicken: Arrange the chicken breasts in the prepared baking dish in a single layer. Lightly score the top of each chicken breast with a knife to help the sauce penetrate. Season each breast with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Coat Chicken with Sauce: Pour the maple Dijon sauce evenly over the chicken breasts, ensuring they are well coated.
  6. Bake the Chicken: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for about 30 minutes. Every 10 minutes, baste the chicken with the sauce from the dish to keep it moist and flavorful. The chicken is done when an internal meat thermometer reads 165°F (74°C).
  7. Serve: Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest briefly. Serve warm, spooning extra sauce from the baking dish over the chicken for maximum flavor.
  8. Storage: Store any leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Notes

  • Cooking time may vary depending on the size and thickness of the chicken breasts; always use a meat thermometer to ensure proper doneness.
  • For a spicier kick, increase the cayenne pepper slightly or add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • You can substitute fresh parsley for parsley flakes for more vibrant flavor.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed vegetables, rice, or a side salad.
  • Leftover chicken is great for sandwiches or salads the next day.
