Oven Baked Mississippi Chicken is a flavorful and easy-to-make dish featuring tender boneless skinless chicken breasts seasoned with ranch and Au Jus gravy mix, topped with tangy pepperoncini peppers and buttery slices, then baked to juicy perfection.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

Seasonings and Toppings

  • 1 (1-oz) package ranch dressing mix
  • 1 (1-oz) packet Au Jus gravy mix
  • ⅓ cup sliced jarred pepperoncini peppers or banana peppers
  • ½ cup butter, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425ºF (220ºC) and lightly spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prepare for baking the chicken, ensuring it doesn’t stick.
  2. Season the Chicken: Place the chicken breasts evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle the entire packet of ranch dressing mix and Au Jus gravy mix over the chicken to infuse rich flavors.
  3. Add Peppers and Butter: Arrange the sliced pepperoncini or banana peppers over the seasoned chicken breasts. Then, place slices of butter evenly on top of the chicken to keep it moist and add savory richness as it bakes.
  4. Bake the Chicken: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake the chicken for 25 to 30 minutes. Bake until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF (74ºC), ensuring the meat is fully cooked and safe to eat.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to accurately check that the chicken has reached the safe internal temperature of 165ºF.
  • You can substitute banana peppers for pepperoncini if preferred.
  • Butter slices can be adjusted in quantity according to your preference for richness.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or rice to complement the savory flavors of the dish.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
