Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • ½ cup old-fashioned rolled oats (56g)
  • ½ cup milk of choice (120ml)
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt (optional) (60g)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Flavor and Mix-ins

  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • ¼ cup blueberries or sliced strawberries (mashed)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon fruit jam
  • ¼ cup diced strawberries (optional)
  • ½ banana (mashed)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut or toasted coconut
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter or peanut butter
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base Oats: In a large glass jar or container with a lid, combine the rolled oats, milk of choice, Greek yogurt (if using), maple syrup, chia seeds (if using), and a pinch of salt (if desired). Stir well to evenly distribute all ingredients.
  2. Add Flavorings: Mix in any of the suggested flavor combinations such as chocolate chips, mashed fruits like blueberries or strawberries, vanilla extract, fruit jam, nut butters, diced strawberries, mashed banana, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, and ground cinnamon. Stir thoroughly to incorporate the flavors.
  3. Refrigerate: Cover the jar or container with a lid and place it in the refrigerator. Let it sit for at least 8 hours, or up to 5 days, allowing the oats to soak and soften, and the flavors to meld together.
  4. Serve: When ready to eat, stir the oats again. If the mixture is too thick, thin it out by adding a little more milk. Add any additional toppings or flavorings as desired. Enjoy chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • The recipe is highly customizable—feel free to swap fruits, nuts, and sweeteners according to your preferences or dietary needs.
  • If you prefer a thinner consistency, adjust the amount of milk to your liking before serving.
  • Overnight oats can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, making them ideal for meal prepping breakfasts in advance.
  • Using Greek yogurt adds extra creaminess and protein but can be omitted for a dairy-free version.
  • Chia seeds are optional but help to thicken the oats and add fiber.
  • For added texture and flavor, consider toasting the nuts or coconut before adding them.
