This Overnight Oats recipe is a quick and customizable breakfast option that combines rolled oats with milk, yogurt, and a variety of delicious mix-ins like fruits, nuts, and nut butters. Soaked overnight, these oats soften naturally, providing a creamy and satisfying start to your day without any cooking required.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • ½ cup old-fashioned rolled oats (56g)
  • ½ cup milk of choice (120ml)
  • ¼ cup Greek yogurt (optional) (60g)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Flavor and Mix-ins

  • 2 tablespoons chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • ¼ cup blueberries or sliced strawberries (mashed)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon fruit jam
  • ¼ cup diced strawberries (optional)
  • ½ banana (mashed)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts
  • 2 tablespoons shredded coconut or toasted coconut
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter or peanut butter
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base Oats: In a large glass jar or container with a lid, combine the rolled oats, milk, Greek yogurt (if using), maple syrup, chia seeds, and a pinch of salt. Stir thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well mixed.
  2. Add Flavor and Mix-ins: Incorporate any desired flavor combination ingredients such as fruits, nut butters, chocolate chips, vanilla extract, nuts, shredded coconut, or cinnamon. Stir gently to combine the mix-ins evenly with the oat base.
  3. Refrigerate Overnight: Cover the jar or container with its lid and place it in the refrigerator. Allow the oats to soak for at least 8 hours or up to 5 days. During this time, the oats will absorb the liquid and soften into a creamy consistency.
  4. Serve and Garnish: When ready to eat, give the oats a good stir. Add extra milk if a thinner consistency is preferred. Top with additional fruits, nuts, or flavorings as desired and enjoy chilled.

Notes

  • Overnight oats can be prepared up to 5 days in advance, making them perfect for meal prep.
  • Feel free to adjust sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup or adding natural sweeteners like honey.
  • Use dairy or plant-based milk and yogurt to suit dietary preferences or restrictions.
  • Adding chia seeds boosts fiber and omega-3 content but is optional based on texture preference.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness while refrigerated.
