Pickled green grapes are a unique and tangy treat, perfect for adding a burst of flavor to salads, cheese boards, or cocktails. This simple recipe uses a spiced vinegar brine with cinnamon to create a sweet and savory pickle that elevates the naturally tart grapes.

Ingredients

Pickled Green Grapes

  • 1 pound green grapes, stems removed

Brine

  • 1 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the brine: In a pot, combine the white wine vinegar, water, cinnamon sticks, and sugar. Stir the mixture well to dissolve the sugar completely.
  2. Heat the brine: Place the pot on the stove over high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, immediately remove the pot from heat.
  3. Pack the grapes: Place the cleaned and stem-removed green grapes along with additional cinnamon sticks into clean jars, ensuring they are packed but not crushed.
  4. Pour the brine: Carefully pour the hot brine over the grapes in the jars, leaving about a half-inch of headspace at the top of each jar to allow for expansion.
  5. Seal and mix: Close each jar with a nonreactive lid tightly and gently rotate or swirl the jar to distribute the spices evenly among the grapes.
  6. Cool and refrigerate: Let the jars cool down to room temperature, then place them in the refrigerator. Allow the grapes to pickle for at least 24 hours before using, to develop the flavors.

Notes

  • Use firm, fresh grapes to ensure they hold up well during pickling.
  • The pickled grapes can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
  • Cinnamon adds a warm spice note but can be omitted or substituted with other spices like star anise or cloves.
  • The brining process does not require canning; refrigeration is essential for safety.
  • These pickled grapes pair beautifully with cheese platters or as a unique garnish for cocktails and salads.
