Pumpkin Spice Puppy Chow is a festive and sweet snack mix combining crunchy Cinnamon Chex cereal coated in a spiced white chocolate mixture, dusted with cinnamon and confectioners’ sugar, and studded with mellowcreme pumpkin candies. Perfect for autumn gatherings and holiday treats, this no-bake dessert brings seasonal flavors with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Cereal Base

  • 13.5 oz box (about 7-8 cups) Cinnamon Chex cereal, or Rice Chex

Candy Coating & Spices

  • 12 ounces orange candy melts or pure white chocolate
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 cup (120g) confectioners’ sugar

Mix-Ins

  • 1-2 cups mellowcreme pumpkins (candy pumpkins)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cereal: Pour the Cinnamon Chex cereal into a large bowl and set aside to get ready for coating.
  2. Melt Candy Coating and Mix Spices: Microwave the orange candy melts or white chocolate in 20 second increments, stirring after each until fully melted and smooth. Stir in 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice until well combined to create a spiced coating mixture.
  3. Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted spiced candy mixture over the cereal. Gently toss to evenly coat each cereal square, being careful as the cereal squares are fragile and can break easily.
  4. Dust with Cinnamon Sugar: In a large zip-top bag, combine confectioners’ sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Add the coated cereal to the bag and shake until every piece is well coated with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Pour the coated cereal back into a large bowl and discard any excess sugar.
  5. Add Mellowcreme Pumpkins: Gently toss in 1 to 2 cups of mellowcreme pumpkin candies according to your preference to add extra sweetness and festive flair.
  6. Store: Cover the bowl and store the pumpkin spice puppy chow at room temperature. It keeps well for up to 2 weeks, making it a convenient make-ahead snack.

Notes

  • Use orange candy melts for a festive color, or opt for pure white chocolate for a smoother flavor.
  • Be gentle when tossing the cereal to avoid breaking the squares too much.
  • Mellowcreme pumpkins are seasonal candies best found around fall; substitute with candy corn or other mellowcreme candies if desired.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness and crunch.
